May is celebrated as National Biking Month and what better time of year to go out and hit the trails? There are plenty of trails to explore with friends and family during the Spring and Summer months. If you are a beginner cyclist, there are many gentle terrain trails. If you are more experienced, try one of the more intermediate trails nearby. If you live nearby, here are a few of the best bike trails near Saratoga County. Be sure to check them out this season!

Saratoga Spa State Park

  • Located between Route 50 and Route 9 in Saratoga, NY
  • Gentle terrain

  • Good for beginners and families

Moreau Lake State Park

  • Located in Gansevoort, NY
  • Gentle to intermediate terrain

  • Trails range from 2 miles to 5.93 miles
  • Scenic routes along the lake and throughout the deeper woods
  • 18 different designated trails
  • Some larger steep hills may be difficult for some bikers

Hudson Crossing Park

  • Located in Schuylerville, NY

  • Scenic routes with amazing views of the Hudson River and Champlain Lock 5
  • Two popular trails are the Riverwalk Sensory Trail and Eagle Point Trail

Saratoga National Historical Park

Zim Smith Trail

  • Extending from Ballston Spa to Mechanicville

Mohawk Towpath Byway

  • Extending from Waterford/Cohoes to Schenectady
  • Gentle terrain

  • Trail follows the historic route of the Erie Canal
  • Approximately 26 miles long

Ballston Veterans Bike Path

  • Located in Ballston Lake, NY
  • Gentle terrain
  • Paved trail
  • 3.5 miles long
