If you have recently purchased one our beautiful homes in any of our three wonderful communities located in Ballston Spa and Clifton Park, you might be a bit unfamiliar with the area. So that’s where we come in! Our series of “In Your Community” articles is designed to help acclimate you with your new neighborhood and provide you with some great activity ideas for you and your family.

Clifton Common

If you’re seeking a park that offers much more than your standard wooden benches and playground sets, look no further than Clifton Common. Located at 7 Clifton Common Blvd Clifton Park, NY 12065, this massive park provides 81-acres of recreational opportunities.

Open from April throughout October from dawn until Dusk Clifton Common offers visitors a vast assortment of activity options which include:

2 NHL sized Indoor Ice Rinks

Although within the town park, the Clifton Park Ice Arena is a privately owned facility that is open year round. It is worth mentioning that all fees associated with purchases at the facility itself are cash-only.

The skate rink offers three main options:

  • Open-Skating (Fee for usage and skate rentals)

  • Learn-to-Skate Lessons

  • Hockey

Learn-to-Skate lessons are available starting at age 3 and are 8 weeks in length.

Finally, hockey lessons/skill building/leagues are offered for a variety of ages and skill levels. Simply call for information regarding when these particular classes are scheduled.

Playground

The giant wood playground at Clifton Commons was designed with one element in mind: creativity.

The unique style of the play set allows children to imagine to their hearts content, climbing and exploring the ins-and-outs of this unconventional set.

For those interested in the standard fair, the set also features slides, swings and climbing structures.

Recreation Park

Something for nearly ever athlete, Clifton Commons features:

  • Outdoor Basketball Courts

  • Softball Field

  • Soccer Field

  • Baseball Field

In addition, the town of Clifton Park offers a variety of recreational sports leagues that include Baseball, Softball, Cheerleading, Soccer, Lacrosse, Swimming, Diving and more!

Outdoor Stage

This outdoor stage features a wide variety of entertainment throughout the year, whether from local artists or productions put on by local groups and camps.

In addition, free performances are featured every Wednesday and Sunday, known as Performing Arts at the Commons. For families, Wednesdays are the children’s series, which feature an assortment of music and performers geared towards kids.

Performances begin at 7pm and attendees are welcome to bring their own seating options, however alcohol is not allowed in the park.

Clifton Park Senior Center

For senior residents, a $15 per year membership grants access to a wide variety of activities designed to maintain physical and mental well-being while creating an engaging social community as well. Some of the activities provided include:

tai chi, chair yoga, exercise classes, dancing, sports leagues, and more. They also host support groups, daily meal programs, and informational speakers.

In addition, the senior center hosts a variety of excursions that are open to members and non-members alike. These trips include visits to the Saratoga Race Track, New York City and Washington DC.
