carpet cleaning in living room

If you have carpet in your home, you know the struggle of keeping it clean all too well. Whether it’s keeping up with the dirt, dust, pet hair, or stains, carpets can be tough to clean. However, there are plenty of tips, tricks, and powerful cleaning agents that help to get the job done. Here are some of our favorite carpet cleaning hacks for the home.

Not every carpet will have the same carpet cleaning instructions due to color, material, and sizing. Be sure to read your specific carpet cleaning instructions for a successful clean.

Vacuum

The number one tip for keeping up with carpet cleaning, is to vacuum often. Before vacuuming any room in your house, you should always check to make sure the filter or bag is fresh and clean. This will help provide better suction and help the area you vacuum to smell fresher after you are done. When vacuuming, make sure to move your furniture out of the way so you can get to hard-to-reach places that are typically forgot about. You can also purchase carpet cleaning agents such as carpet foam, carpet powder, or baking soda to help with your vacuuming. Just be sure that the carpet is dry from the products before vacuuming it up, otherwise you can cause damage to your vacuum.

Caring for Stains

Stains can be caused by dirt, food, wine, and so many other items you might found around the house. It is quite common for homeowners to have a situation where they need to care for a carpet stain. Caring for a stain immediately, is the most effective way to get rid of it. However, you can also use cleaning agents such as foam stain remover, powder, baking soda, and rubbing alcohol to help remove the stain after the fact.

Lint Rollers for Small Messes

After vacuuming, sometimes there are little annoying crumbs or dirt particles that the vacuum left behind. Lint rollers are great for picking up these smaller messes. You can also use lint rollers to help pick up pet hair from furniture as well.

Area Rugs or Runners

Area rugs or runners are great for high traffic areas within the carpeted rooms of your home. You can roll them out when you know you will have a high volume of foot traffic such as hosting guests at your home. That way you can easily clean the area rugs and runners and put them away, avoiding your main carpet from getting too dirty.

Carpet Cleaning for Pet Owners

If you are a pet owner, cleaning the carpets in your home is especially important. Carpets are known for holding onto pet hair, dander, accidents, and dirt. To get rid of pet hair and danderyou can use a vacuum, use a squeegee, or a rubber broom. Sometimes using a tool with rubber material like the squeegee or rubber broom works better than the vacuum because it easily grasps the hair making it easier to gather and get rid of it. For accidents and dirt, baking soda is recommended. Baking soda will absorb the oil to help remove it and leave your carpet smelling fresh.
