June 5th is National Trail Day! What better way to celebrate than getting outdoors and exploring the wonderful hiking trails nearby? 

Here are some of the best hiking trails near Saratoga Springs, NY!

Buck Mountain

Buck Mountain, located in Kattskill Bay, NY is just 35 miles from Saratoga Springs, NY. 

Great for a day trip hike! The trails are rated for moderate level hikers.

There are two different trails to choose from at Buck Mountain.

3.3 miles one-way from Pilot Knob Road and 2.5 miles one-way from Shelving Rock Road.

Both trails lead to great views of the lake and Adirondack Mountains.  

Grafton Lakes State Park

Grafton Lakes State Park is located less than an hour from Saratoga Springs, NY! 

The Park has over 25 miles of trails to explore, and they are known for their wildlife watching opportunities.

Some of the wildlife you may come across are river otters, great blue herons, wild turkeys, and more! 

The Park also offers other recreational activities on the lake. 

Hadley Mountain

If you are looking for a hiking trail close to Saratoga Springs with a great view of the Adirondack mountains, look no further. 

Hadley Mountain, located in Hadley NY, is a beginner to moderate hiking trail approximately 1.8 miles one-way (3.6 miles round trip).

The trail is marked with red trail markers to help you stay on track. The trail also has spots to take breaks along the way.

The trail leads to a restored fire tower where you can climb up to get an even better view of the Adirondacks.

Great for photo opportunities! 

Prospect Mountain

For hikers near Saratoga Springs who are looking for a hiking trail close by that is a little more difficult, Prospect Mountain is a great choice!

The trails are rated moderate to difficult due to the steep terrain. One-way the trail is around 1.5 miles long.

The trail starts in the Lake George Village and has multiple viewpoints along the way.

You can also view remnants of an old cable railway at the end of the trail.  

Sleeping Beauty Mountain

Sleeping Beauty Mountain is only an hour away from Saratoga Springs and a great hiking trail for kids and beginners.

The easy to moderate terrain leads to amazing views of the East Side of Lake George.

The trails are 1.8 miles one-way from Dacy Clearing trailhead or 3.4 miles one-way from Hogtown trailhead. 

Spruce Mountain

Spruce Mountain is in Corinth, NY less than 15 miles from Saratoga Springs, NY.

This trail is great for kids and beginners as the trails are considered easy to moderate.

One-way the trail is around 1.3 miles long. The trail leads to a 73-foot-tall fire tower.

To see a good view of the mountains you need to climb up the tower, so it is not for the people afraid of heights.  

Thacher State Park

Thacher State Park has over 25 miles in various hiking trails surrounded by limestone cliffs, waterfalls, and woodlands.

The Park also has a campground, picnic area, and other outdoor recreational activities such as mountain biking and cross-country skiing. 

The Park is in Voorheesville, NY about a one-hour drive from Saratoga Springs! 

Vroman’s Nose

Vroman’s Nose is a trail that takes a slightly longer time to get to being a little over an hour away from Saratoga Springs.

However, the views are worth it! The Vroman’s Nose Loop Trail is around 1.8 miles round trip making for a quick and enjoyable hike.

There is a slight incline throughout the trail, but all skill level hikers should be able to complete it. 

The flat summit on the top is nicknamed “The Dancefloor” and is great for photo opportunities!
