When purchasing a home, some homeowners have an extra bedroom on their wishlist to turn into a guest room. Guest rooms are a great idea if you have family from out of town that might be staying with you occasionally, or if you just want a nice room for friends to crash in once in awhileNo matter who is staying in your guest room, it’s important to make it as comfortable and welcoming as possible. How do you do that? Here’s our guide to having the ultimate guest room.

Make Them Comfortable

The first priority in a guest room is to make sure the bed is comfortable for guests. Clean any sheets and blankets before their arrival and make sure they have plenty of them. You can even have a few extra pillows and blankets somewhere in the room for them to grab id needed. A comfortable place to sleep is key to make sure your guests have a great time staying over at your house.

Supply Extra Linens

Some guests might bring their own wash cloths and towels, but in case they don’t it’s always a good idea to have extra on hand for them. Neatly fold a pile of washcloths and towels and place them in the bathroom or on a nearby table in the guest room for easy access.

Keep the Décor Simple

When thinking about décor for the guest room, it’s best to keep it simple. You can add a few pops of color, or welcoming touches, but doing too much with the room’s décor can make the room seem small and feel cluttered for your guests. Try keeping a simple and neutral design aesthetic in mind when decorating.

Supply a Toiletry Basket

The hardest part of traveling somewhere is remembering to pack everything you will need. Take the burden off of your guests by supplying a basket of mini toiletry items in their room. You can fill the basket with common items like a toothbrush, floss, lotion, shampoo and conditioner, and other health items.

Provide Snacks

Having a basket of snacks or a mini fridge in the room full of drinks is a great idea as well. Find out their favorite snacks or put together an assorted basket. This eliminates the need for them to take trips to the kitchen in the middle of the night.

Give them Storage Space

If your guests are staying for more than a night or two, they may bring a suitcase full of clothes. Instead of keeping their clothes in the suitcase to get wrinkled, make some room for their stuff either in a closet to be hung up or in a drawer of a dresser.

Bedside Lighting

Make sure to provide plenty of lighting in the guest room. If your guests like to read at night, having a bedside table lamp is a great idea. Even if they aren’t readers, having extra light will allow them to see clearly and not bump into anything in a room that is new to them.

Entertainment

Providing entertainment for your guests is extremely important. The entertainment you provide can be as little or as elaborate as you would like. We suggest at least putting a television in the room, but you can even add a DVD player, gaming system, or even a few books that you would like to recommend.
