The trip from Ithaca to the Saratoga region takes about 3.5 hours – but vacationing in Ithaca is well worth the drive. From waterfalls and gorges to wineries, hiking trails and amazing eateries, Ithaca has something for everyone. This is a great destination for families who love the outdoors, as there are many parks, gorges and waterfalls to explore, plus family friendly indoor attractions in the local area if you happen to have a rainy day during your trip.
Buffalo, NY
Buffalo has once again transformed into a bustling, lively destination in western New York State. With amazing restaurants, canalside activities, and – of course – Niagara Falls, this is a great vacation destination for families that love to stay busy while they’re traveling. Visiting Buffalo from the Saratoga region involves a 4.5 hour drive across the state, but you won’t mind the drive once you experience all the Buffalo area has to offer.
Lake Placid, NY
Lake Placid is a popular destination for skiers in the winter and vacationers in the summer, but the reality is that it’s a beautiful place to visit any time of the year. From visiting the Olympic Training Center to hiking the High Peaks and shopping along Main Street, there’s enough to keep you busy for weeks at a time! Lake Placid is an easy 1.5 hour drive north from Saratoga, making it a great option if you’re looking for a fun getaway that requires minimal travel.
Cooperstown, NY
We’ve mentioned Cooperstown before as a great place to enjoy a day trip from Saratoga Springs, but it’s worth mentioning again as a great vacation destination! With so much going on, there’s plenty to keep a family busy for a day, a weekend, or longer. From the Baseball Hall of Fame and the Farmers’ Museum to the Fenimore Art Gallery, Cooperstown is filled with fun activities and attractions that the whole family will enjoy. And since it’s under 2 hours from the Saratoga Region, it’s another vacation option that maximizes fun and minimizes travel!
Thousand Islands, NY
If you’re looking for an authentic outdoor vacation that involves lots of sightseeing, visiting the Thousand Islands region of Upstate the ideal destination for you! With lots of historical and natural sites to visit, plenty of family friendly attractions, beautiful state parks, amusement parks, and more you’ll find that the nearly 5 hour drive was more than worth it once you arrive.
New York, NY
Whether you’re heading down to watch the Yankees play, to catch a show on Broadway, or to see the Statue of Liberty, New York City is always a fabulous destination. Though it’s just 3.5 hours from Saratoga, New York is almost like visiting like another world. The fast-paced hustle and bustle of the city will sweep you in and the many amazing attractions will keep you busy no matter how long you plan to stay.
