Monday November 15th is recognized as America Recycles Day. The United States Environmental Protection Agency created this day to recognize the importance and impact of recycling on America. Recycling is a team effort by people all over the country. We all need to do our part to contribute to the protection of the environment, our country, and our planet. Not sure where to start? Here are some recycling tips to consider for America Recycles Day.

Use Reusable Bags

Plastic bags have a bigger impact on the environment than you may imagine. Cutting back on the use of plastic bags is extremely helpful in preserving the environment. Instead of reaching for a plastic bag when grocery shopping or on the go, use a reusable tote bag instead. Another great benefit of using reusable bags is that they are extremely durable, and you can actually fit much more in them without the bag breaking or having leaks.

Learn What You Can and Can’t Recycle

Each local area has different guidelines on what can and can’t be recycled. However, when starting out with recycling it’s important to remember the three basic guidelines. You can recycle clean bottles, cans, paper, and cardboard. Remember to keep food or liquid out of your recycling. And, do not place loose plastic bags or bagged recyclables in the bin. For more specific recycling guidelines in your area, please contact your waste management department.

Recycle your Electronics

Even electronics can be recycled in the right way. You can donate your electronics or recycle them to help conserve resources and help the environment. You can find quite a few manufacturers and retailers that offer different options for donating or recycling your electronics. Check out the Environmental Protection Agency’s website to search by electronic device or company to find a location to donate or recycle near you.

Switch to Reusable Water Bottles

Using a reusable water bottle instead of plastic ones is one easy recycling effort to implement in your daily life. Using a reusable water bottle decreases your carbon footprint, since you are using less plastic. This helps reduce the amount of plastic pollution in landfills and oceans. Reusable water bottles can also help you save money, and who doesn’t love saving money while helping the environment?
